Lorna Maseko is a celebrated South African chef, media personality, and former prima ballerina, renowned for her dynamic presence in the culinary and entertainment industries.She made history as South Africa's first Black ballerina to perform a principal role in a major production. Maseko then gained national recognition as a finalist on the television show Top Billing, eventually becoming its presenter. Her passion for food led her to compete in Celebrity MasterChef South Africa in 2015, igniting her culinary journey. She went on to host Top Chef South Africa and her own cooking series, The Hostess with Lorna Maseko. In 2019, she published her debut cookbook, Celebrate with Lorna Maseko, which won two Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for 'Best Celebrity Chef Cookbook' and 'Best International Cookbook'Beyond television and publishing, Maseko has showcased South African cuisine globally through her "Taste of South Africa" pop-up events in cities like New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles. She is also an advocate for sustainable cooking, supporting initiatives like the United Nations’ Act Now campaign and promoting the 'Future 50 Foods' for healthier and more sustainable diets.
She was appointed Executive Chef for South African Airways (SAA) Business Class, where she reimagined in-flight dining with bold, proudly South African flavors. Now based between Johannesburg and Atlanta, Lorna recently launched Ekhaya Dining—named after the Zulu word for “home.” Ekhaya is a culinary and cultural space that blends South African warmth with global flavors, offering curated dining experiences that reflect her roots and international perspective. Through Ekhaya and her Atlanta-based private cheffing and pop-up events, she creates heartfelt, memorable meals that bring people together.
